Rampathon 2009 Wrap-up

May 19th, 2009

Rampathon 2009 happened on March 16th. 32 teams of volunteers built 32 ramps for deserving people and families. For my part I visited 7 ramps and took pictures of the teams and some of the recipients for use by the MBA and the participating volunteers. I was only able to get team pictures at 6 of the ramps as the 7th one finished before I was able to show up.

The weather this year was absolutely beautiful. It wasn’t as hot as last year, but it was still sunny for a lot of the day. I’m sure the volunteers appreciated not having to deal with rain.

Here are the pictures of the teams that I visited:

2009 Rampathon Snohomish County Media Ramp

May 7th, 2009

Continuing with the Master Builders Association Care Foundation Rampathon coverage, the Snohomish County Media Ramp was dedicated today and I attend to get pictures. Thankfully the weather was much nicer to us. There were heavy clouds, but the rain stayed away and the sun even broke through a few times.

Today’s ramp was built by Pacific Ridge Homes. There were actually three recipients for this ramp as each member of the home has mobility issues and the ramp will make it much easier and safer for them to access their house.

This is a great example of how to pose for a picture. He’s looking right at the camera, he making sure his Rampathon t-shirt is showing, and the plaque is visible. Very nice.

Here’s a lot of the Rampathon team along with the Pacific Ridge Homes crew and one of the recipients. A lot of people and coordination goes into the Rampathon event every year. This year over 30 ramps will be built and completed on May 16th.

2009 Rampathon King County Media Ramp

May 6th, 2009

As I mentioned previously I would be taking pictures at some of the ramps built during Rampathon on May 16 as part of the Master Builders Association Care Foundation event.

Before all the ramps are built on the 16th two ramps are built to help draw media attention to the event. The first ramp was for King County and was built in the Greenwood neighborhood. The ramp was constructed by Irons Brothers Construction. I have photographed several of Irons Brothers remodeling projects and they always do a great job.

The event was well attended with photographers from a marketing firm, the Seattle Times and the Ballard News Tribune as well as video shot by Komo 4 News.

The weather could have been worse. There was a light to moderate drizzle the entire time, but it didn’t dampen the spirits.

Here are a few other shots from the event.

Rampathon 2009

May 5th, 2009

For a number of years now the Master Builders Association Care Foundation has been building wheel-chair ramps for people in need. They call it Rampathon.

Each year they get many more requests than they can handle. They have been holding Rampathon since 1993 and have built over 200 ramps. Last year I took pictures at several ramp locations and will be doing so again this year.

Rampathon is one of the 100 community service projects that the MBA is dedicated to completing to commemorate their 100 year anniversary.

For one of their marketing pieces they chose to include a picture I took from the 2008 Rampathon. My picture is in the middle.

Rampathon for 2009 happens on May 16.
